Watchdog advises data operators not to keep personal info
MOSCOW, Aug 9 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has recommended operators of personal data to get rid of them immediately after their use without storing them as the only way to avoid leaks, Deputy Director Milosh Wagner told PRIME in an interview published on Wednesday.
“In our view, it is necessary to start not with protection of collected information, but earlier, with building up the processes in such a way that you would have as little data as possible at the very beginning. The data are toxic; they should be disposed of. Only the information you do not have will not be compromised. It’s for sure,” Wagner said.
Now the operators of personal data have several options of their storage. Some split the information by separating identifying data from transactional data, this is how the communications regulator recommends to do to make data recovery more complicated if something is lost. Some keep all data in one place.
‘If you can solve the task without collecting personal data, do not gather them,” Wagner said.
